Reporting to the Respite Centre Coordinator this position is responsible for providing culturally appropriate care and support to aged care respite clients from a range of culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.  This will include assisting the Respite Centre Coordinator to provide centre-based respite activities, community outings, and community access activities.  It will also involve assisting respite clients with personal hygiene, transport and various health and wellness related activities to enrich their lives and promote independence.  


Essential Skills

  • A high degree of cultural awareness, including a demonstrated ability to build rapport with people from a variety of backgrounds and a non-judgemental attitude
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to work unsupervised
  • Access to own fully maintained and insured vehicle
  • The ability to plan and organise self to ensure the timely completion of tasks.
  • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively as a member of a team
  • Has a friendly and cheerful demeanour
  • Demonstrate an empathic and caring approach
  • Ability to use a smartphone and/or tablet
  • Adequate connectivity to a mobile network in your own home to facilitate the use of work related mobile technology
  • Physical fitness including ability to undertake manual handling, carrying, standing and sitting for long periods of time

  • Demonstrated understanding of Work Health and Safety
  • Demonstrated understanding of infection control principles
  • Demonstrated knowledge of local community resources, cultural groups and key CALD community leaders and stakeholders


  • Demonstrated experience working in a role that requires cultural sensitivity
  • Demonstrated ability to work with clients from a diverse range of cultural, religious and social backgrounds
